Well, my DXR10 arrived today and I only had about half an hour playing with it...

Two 'straight out of the box' thoughts;

i.) it is both bigger and heavier than I thought. Very well built.

ii.) it is a fine looking speaker

Plugged in the Kemper. Rambler profiled cleans. Easy to adjust, and instant beautiful cleans. No, stunning cleans. Sounds great at low, home volumes... it could get loud this one ?

Works well sitting on the floor, on its side, raised (on a stool !). Good strong bass.

I've not tried it yet with heavier driven settings...

I need to think about the following...

a.) is it better and superior to my Zilla 1x12 ?

b.) If its a keeper, how good would another one of these sound in stereo ???

"No stunning cleans" if this is a negative (not sure how you mean), then I can categorically say that it's not the speaker, it's the Kemper. It's going to give you a pretty good representation of what's coming out of the Kemper, so should be as clean as you want it to be provided the profile allows. I'm convinced my Fender Twin preset on the Axe FX is as close as I can remember my old Twin, clean as a whistle and as stunning as it comes! :-)

    b) Amazing.

Yes, it does look the business...as superficial as that sounds. It's a great speaker!

  • And again, as far as driven tones go, it's punchy as hell and really delivers.

Also, stereo will sound fuller, in my experience. Nature of the beast.

  • XLR on the line input, gain at 0db

Both switches are set to off and LED is on, as is mono; same for my second DXR.

  • They really are impressive, I like them a lot.

Ha, I know, tell me about it, it's a bit weird isn't it! I really hope we've managed to find what we've been looking for, mate! :-)

I'm another happy DXR10 owner. Pairs great with my recently acquired AX8 and works as well at home volumes as it does at rehearsals.
Have yet to gig it but will do in about a month..
I'd agree that it is heavier than I was expecting (as is the AX8!) but it is still more portable than my amp and cab (1x12)
I've also got a couple of Alto TS110a's which are also very good but I think the Yamaha is better. Mind you, I don't think it's 2 - 3 times better (which is the price differential) Must get around to trying them in stereo with the AX8...

  • Do you guys use them as cabs with the Kemper sat atop? Very tempted to order one today but equally very keen on the slightly cheaper Matrix passive 12" FRFR which is shaped like a cab.

Used my PowerHead last night at rehearsal with my Zilla Dinky. Very happy. It didn't feel digital or that there was no amp in the room. And the Dirty Shirley with gain dialled down is a better, more distinct clean than I've had from any of my valve amps.

I've asked elsewhere but is there any advantage of going active on the FRFR when my Kemper is powered?

    Nice one.

and if the DXR is heavier than you were expecting, just be thankful you didn't go for the L2 !
    Red ones are better.

  • @Wazmeister You've inspired me to get one. Arrives tomorrow. I hope it gives me access to much more variety than my Zilla, which I suspect it will.

Stupid question perhaps, but which output do you use? And what settings on the Kemper?
