Strymon flint - midi control or other options

What's Hot

So I'm building my board around a Boss ES 5.. 5 pedals up front and then midi control in the FX loop.
My dd500 fits this nicely but the strymon flint is an issue.

Is there anyway of controlling the faves function via midi? It must be possible, even if the midi controls a seperate unit that in turn selects faves

Is it easier to ditch the flint and get something else? All I need is spring reverb and a tremolo... what choices are there?

Does the ES 5 have remote functions? (Like a latching signal to change the channel on the amp).

If so I think that may work as the favourite?

Failing that - and I think it's a bit mad, don't Gigrig do a midi pedal controller that turns the knobs for you?

Hmm, yes, the ES 5 does have remote function...

  • You can use the remote switching on the ES5.

    Sweet! Thanks

  • Interesting to know how you get on with this, as i'm considering something similar; especially since CB Brothers was released. What pedals do you have atm?

    Well at the moment it's
    Ernie Ball wah loop 1
    Dod 201 loop 2
    Mini moog chorus loop 3
    Mini moog flanger loop 4
J rad Guthrie trapp od loop 5

Dd500 midi control in fx loop

Strymon flint... always on reverb plus manual tremolo. Again in fx loop.

I actually think I might ditch the flint and chorus and replace with a big sky or space and empress trem.

    ...or an H9?

If the h9 could do spring and tremolo together it would be ideal... but it's 1 sound at a time right?

I'm also looking at the gurus sinusoid as an option as it has remote switching.

No, the Spring algorithm has a tremolo programmed in. There's another algorithm, Tremoverb, for less conventional trem. Both are on the Space and H9. ModEchoVerb has a reverb with chorus built in as well.

Really.. oh I didn't know that. Now you have me interested... Hmmm

H9 would also mean I could sell the dd500... as I don't use delay and reverb together...

...though if you did, some of the algorithms use delay and reverb together, like Blackhole and SpaceTime.

  • @Teetonetal Seriously, if I was only able to take one pedal to a gig, I'd take an H9 Max, put it in the loop of the Mesa and use the amp's gain. It's really that versatile a pedal.

See this is why gas is a fucker!

Hmm dd500 + flint sold is largely an h9 max... but beginning to creep up towards a 2nd hand fx8

Sell the es5 and the fx8 is nearly in reach with some extra cash...

    This is so stupid.
All so I can play gigs in a 2nd rate band and not press so many switches.

    I'm thinking...
2 x H9 and an es 5. Both using pre/post loops. Plus a drive in the 5th loop. Both midi controlled. That is a damn flexible rig and small.

Well I wouldn't want to steer you towards an FX8 in any way, BUT... :)
