I'm a big fan of Graham Cochran, the guy behind therecordingrevolution.com. I really like his approach to home recording and, in particular, his insistence that the recording gear you own is not the issue - YOU are. I've been looking at his communications for 18 months or so and I'm not bored yet.
He's just started a short series on recording a song from scratch, aimed at people who are new to recording. He uses budget equipment and a free version of ProTools. I took a look at episode one and it's worth a watch if you have no idea where to start in getting your songs recorded.
Hence the heads up.
Enjoy.
PS: The rest of the site is worth a look, too.
