I have a Carr Skylark - and demo'd the Sportsman, so if I remember right.

I find it loves all the classic 'into a Fender' pedals - currently I'm very much enjoying:

Klon KTR - lovely low gain TS type stuff

JHS Andy Timmons - mid gain (although it sounds wonderful for high stuff too)

Wampler Pinnacle V2 - high gain stuff.

ThorpyFX PeaceKeeper was majestic and worth a look, Gunshot I liked too. Warthog - not so much, but think that was just me.

TS9 works well (but KTR is definitely better).

Hopefully come to the top of the KoT pile next month.

I'd say the only pedal that didn't work that well was my original Marshall Guvn'r that just had something funny in the mid-range, maybe not enough low mids or I didn't persevere?

    Hope this helps

    Pete

Blackstone mosfet, a couple princeton & deluxe users find it a great match. Or perhaps a nobels ODR-1 if you play single coils on the bridge pickup alot.

I'd say consider the Bondi Sick As as an alternative to the RYRA. I haven't tried the RYRA specifically but have had straight Klones and I preferred the Sick As as you can dial the bass back in at low volumes and you can add more compression via the toggle switch, very versatile Klon type which is great when you turn the gain dial up too.

With my Sportsman I use the Sick As for low gain, an MP LGW for mid gain and a Jam Rattler (vintage rat type) for high. All work very well, and have been chosen after much experimentation and pedal swapping, but then I'd quite like to try some in your list above!

I liked the following when I had a skylark (I guess they're similar) KOT, Arc Klone, FTT SOV-2, Kinglsey Jester/Minstrel and Blue Note. Good luck.

absolutely loved my Kingsley Page into the Sportsman when I had one. Minstrel too. That Sportsman is a tremendous platform for just about any decent OD in my view though

  • Really liking Black Cat OD-Boost or OD-Fuzz both sound fantastic. Just Nick on YT uses a 68 Custom Princeton Reverb with most of his stuff!

Fulltone Fulldrive II, works well with just about everything in my experience, although I haven't played one through a Sportsman  :/

  • I really liked a Blues Driver into a Princeton when I tried it in store. Match made in heaven. Bright and snarly enough to be fun without getting too nasty or flubbing out the pretty easily flubbed out (lack of) bass.

    Agreed!

I use a Keeley Katana Blues Driver, great match.

I get sublime drive tones with nearly all my guitars with just an EHX East River Drive into my Fender Super Reverb (and other amps) but it likes the Fenders especially. Invigorating, reliable tones and not a fortune,

I have a Klon and a King of Tone on my board- amp is a Princeton-style Louis Electric.
    It sounds godly.
