Basswood body with poly paint - refin in nitro?

Is there any issue with refinishing a poly painted basswood body in a nitro colour? Would be going from vintage white to another solid colour.

Any thoughts?

It will drink it up and dent easily... you need to use a decent sealer first or just overspray the poly

basswood can be very thirsty.  It's also a bit fluffy and this can make it hard to get a nice finish

Ok cool, sounds like using the poly as a base coat might be a reasonable plan. Defeats some of the object of finishing in nitro but would look good.
