Cathode biased EL34 amps?

Apart from the Hamstead Artist 20 what other Cathode biased EL34 combo amps with an effects loop are in curret production?

Suhr Badger. Not sure whether the older design had effects loop or not but the new one does and the 18w, 30w and 35w are all cathode biased.
    30w has EL34's.

Blackstar HT-20 . Cathode biased to all intents and purposes, has some -ve adjustment but limits pretty much like a pure CB amp. FX loop, Emulated out.

If you have other cabs, save yourself some dosh and buy the head. The Rocket 50 in the combo is not enamoured by many!

All the Matchless amps I've seen with El34s use cathode bias.

  • I think the Orange th30c (and head) is cathode biased but i think its el84

Yes. The Rocker 30 was EL34 cathode-biased though. (But doesn't have an FX loop and isn't current production so doesn't answer the OP's question.)

I'm actually quite surprised that there are not more large-valve cathode-biased amps these days. The requirement for maximum clean power - the major advantage of fixed bias - has passed long ago, and cathode-bias has advantages from a user point of view as well as probably being slightly cheaper to implement for the manufacturer.

Separate cathode bias - which is rarer than shared - even means that you don't have to be fussy about matching valves.
