Done a dry fit. The neck pocket is tight but I'm not too happy with the neck overhanging the body at the heal. Its about 1mm. Its not the templates as they are CNC laser cut and pip on. The problem was when I was rough cutting the shape out on the band saw I went past the line so its my own daft fault. Not too bothered as this was never going to be a high end guitar. Just a keep by the sofa as a grab for 10mins then put it back kind of thing.

    That's annoying, rest looks excellent.
Could you not saw a slim shim from your blank, glue it and sand it to a smooth joint in the curve ? Might not look perfect but probably less disturbing than having that gap at the neck heel ?

I was thinking about a thin piece and I think I will end up doing that

Anybody here who remembers me from UKGB will know my builds always run into problems.

Well !!!!!!!!! I was using a grinder and flap wheel to carve out the body and I have only gone and when through the wall into the cavity.

I thinking of just binning this body.

Everyone's builds run into problems - you're just honest about it. ;)

    Good to see you here.

Was it having a solid finish.  If so it's worth persevering and fixing it somehow.  I would inlay a strip of identical wood about 1" wide

Yes Wez its going to be painted. Im just wondering if there is enough wall thickness to inlay

You will need to go further than the damage, but it should work.   If in doubt, trim that hole back till the surrounding wood is solid, that should show how big an inlay you need

I have tried what Wez has suggested and did an inlay. Once its sanded flush I think it should work. If its does not its the bin for this strat body.

I'm giving the glue a few days to fully cure and then going to sand it flush on Monday. I have also decided that I'm not going to paint it 1970's white anymore. Its going to be gloss black with a gloss black pickguard. I think it will look nice with the maple neck. Starting to feel more positive about this build now.
things like this always happen to me but I do get there in the end.

They happen to all of us, that's why we can recommend solutions ;)

give it extra care with the grainfill/sealer and additional time to cure when finishing.

Gagaryn. Yes it turned out well.

Since its been raining all day and I've been off work I have drilled for the bridge. Its a Gotoh hardtail strat bridge.

Using a brass bar as a string retainer is no cheaper than string ferrules but I just like making these myself.

First coat of primer sprayed on today. Most of it will be sanded off tomorrow and then a second coat. I will keep on spraying and sanding until the pores are filled.
I have used Morrells waterbased primer.
It's strange that the Korina top has turned the white primer yellow.

It's just drinking up a lot of the finish.... but that would make a nice blonde finish as it is
