technical wood question

OK, so I have a flat top body and I am planning to put a Poplar burl cap on it. That in itself shouldn't be a problem, but I am also planning on having a 2 point trem. I was wondering if anyone knows if the density of the poplar could cause a problem with the trem posts?

Also, is there generally a preferred thickness for caps? The top I have is rather thick (11mm) so I thought I'd take it down a bit.

Poplar should hold a trem okay, like basswood. The burl element is totally unpredictable, stabilise with superglue if unsure.

i would take it down in thickness if you have a more consistent base wood.  4-5mm works well.  Don't forget to take it from the back, not the book matched side, if it's 2-piece top

Thanks, and that is a good obvious point that I totally didn't think of!
