All the compressors mentioned here are great.

I've got two: a modded Boss CS-3 on my little board and a Suhr Koji on my big board.

I like them both. A lot. The CS-3 has a beautiful warmth to it but no Blend option. That's where the Koji has the advantage and why it's on my bigger board.

Every compressor pedal I've ever used has been great for single coils, most are OK with P-90's - but, in my experience, a Blend control is absolutely essential if; a) You want to use one on a humbucker-equipped guitar, or; b) You want to use extreme compression as an obviously audible effect.

No idea why - that's just how I've found it. YMMV and all that...
Not much of the gear, even less idea.

I've found this to be especially true with the humbuckers. It's so much easier to find the sweet spot when you've got the blend knob. A compressor isn't as "necessary" with humbuckers, either, ime.

As far as the "in your face" compression aspect goes: that's one of the things I love about the mod I had done on my CS-3. No blend knob, but squish for days. It's a great unit, now.

I've had quite a few comps and my favorites have been the Xotic and the Suhr Koji.

I'd go for the Koji. It only has an EQ switch, but it's perfectly voiced.

Yeah the Koji is my favourite too, great pedal and would recommend also.

Talked to lots of pro players about comps.......all say the Cali is a league of its own
Personally I have never tried one
I liked the Analogman Juicer but subtle it certainly isn't
CS3 is very much a chicken pickin tool

I tried the bass version. It was a bit flat sounding, so I guess it was doing its job. Got the impression it was designed for slap play, not something the guitar version should suffer from.

I've got a Cali 76 cd and I love it. Not cheap, but sounds bloomin' wonderful.

Orange have just brought out a comp. The Kongpressor, the pedal graphic gives the gag. Sounds rather nice actually. Has a Chime control (treble I presume) which gives you that dense upper mids/treble squeezed sound.
