Brexit summit: EU accepts united Ireland declaration
Way clear for North to automatically become part of EU if its people vote for united Ireland

European Union leaders have unanimously approved tough guidelines for negotiations on Brexit, including a commitment to protecting Ireland’s interests and a guarantee that Northern Ireland could rejoin the EU as part of a united Ireland.

It's simply stating the bleedin' obvious. If N. Ireland leaves the UK and Ireland becomes reunited then of course the people in N. Ireland would be in the EU. Typical EU meddling in the affairs of other countries when there's an election. They did it when the Netherlands went to the polls and are doing it in the French election and now the UK elections.

It's up to the people of Ireland and the people of N. Ireland, not the EU.

By what instrument would the people of Northern Ireland vote to become part of a "united" Ireland?

Are there plans for a NI-ndyref?

    excellent point Rocker.
We could (just for the sake of it) substitute - say Gibraltar or Scotland for Ulster (N Ireland) or all of them - and yes - it would be up to them.

Speaking for myself only, it was because I didn't have a fecking clue what he was talking about.

I thought the whole point of Northern Ireland is that most of its people don't want to be part of a united Ireland - am I mistaken in that assumption?

There is a provision for this in the good friday agreement, if it is wanted by the majority of the people in NI there would be a poll.

I assumed it was just the OP trying to troll and score cheap points before running away when confronted. You can't help but think if the OP had given the thread a more clear title it'd get more attention.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

sorry bout the slightly cryptic title Vim - I thought it was self explanatory in the linked Irish Times article - if you lived in Ulster -how would you vote ?.
Just highlighting the complexities that a relative few conservatives / Ukipers have initiated, never mind trade agreements / single markets or immigration. Then the 'Global Brittan' to get under way
Then there's 'The Great Repeal Act'  ? wtf and no doubt more if you'd care to mention them -
there's many years work in all this and a completely different economic and political landscape at the end of all this - was that the point ?

Maybe because most Brexiteers are completely clueless as to the impact of hard Brexit on NI.

Don't really care. When they can get on with each other without bombs & bullets, I might be more interested in their situation.

I know this is a wildly sweeping statement, and most of the people from there are quite nice, but frankly I wouldn't even go to that bleak and dangerous place for a weekend right now.
