I haven't read this in ages but it is the first known use of GAS  (Walter Becker 1996). 
Also sometimes used as Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

Shocking thing is... I've tried stats and teles... and I just plain don't like the tone they make.

I agree on the strat front they make a horrible noise, I did once find a Tele I completely got on with though.

Well when choosing my first guitar, I decided I preferred Les Paul tones, I didn't like Strats and teles in comparison....,however I think I may have been overly hasty and a Strat currently seems like a necessity which would lead to my next question. Which St..sorry an alarm appears to be going off
