Strat partscaster

What's Hot
Picked up an ash Strat body from Guitarbuild a couple of months ago when they had a sale and just got around to start putting it all together.

It will go with a Mighty Mite maple neck and some lipstick pickups that I've had for ages, and a Wilinson trem.

For the finish I've gone with a Crimson Guitars white stain and here it is after one coat:

    And now we have this...

This is the result of six coats of the white stain (basically the whole bottle) and then four coats of the finishing oil (about half the bottle) with a day drying/curing in between each.

I've then spent a couple of hours this evening giving it a good going over with wire wool to remove some of the shine and the sticky feeling of the finish, and then giving it a very light relic with a wet & dry pad.

Next I need to order some pots and I'm not sure about the pickguard - I have an old white guard that has yellowed but I'm not sure..?

And the trem. I've gone with a Wilkinson unit but it's very shiny & chrome. Any tips for making it a bit duller please?

Semi-transparent Blonde over ash is often associated with a eight screw hole, single ply white pickguard.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

It's always fun when someone ignores the question to pick up on another detail... to me, the scratchplate looks fine. It's cool that it's discoloured quite nicely, imo.

Now, about that dulling... Get a plastic a little box and put the hardware in it. Give it a shuffle to cause some random marks. Next, put some hydrochloridic acid in a saucer or bottle lid and place inside the container.

Give it an hour at a time until you're happy with how it looks. Make sure to do this outside or in a garage. Get a mask too

Finally finished and assembled. All the wiring is good, no buzzing, etc. Just need to tweek the action and intonation slightly and we're good to go

Strats with lipstick pickups are cool as anything. Good work.
