How about an Aria 1532? Nicely retro styled and less than £200.

Thanks @rlw that's a kind offer however as lovely as the guitar is, it is sunburst which I unfortunately don't really like - as vain as it sounds it doesn't match with my style haha such a hipster I know.

Thanks also Steve but that shape's not for me, nor is the burst again I'm afraid, Looks a bit stretched out somehow! Keep em coming though :)

Or did you mean the cheap as chips mustang that had the bendy neck in the Andertons video?

I meant either. I hadn't heard of the bendy neck issue on the mustangs, but I'm still tempted.

The G&L Tribute fallouts are a bit rare at the moment. I bought a sonic blue one from Thomman back in February for £300. The price has since gone up, sadly. The one I got wasn't perfect. The neck has a few very minor flaws - it just could have been tidier really. But, having said that I really like it. It is by far my favourite and best guitar. It really does cover plenty of ground with the P90 and a splitable humbucker.

Have you seen the Revelation RJT60 Thinlines? They might be worth a look.

Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.

Interesting re the G&L one, I'd have to try one really but not looking good on that front as none of the shops around here seem to stock them as far as I can tell, but I've not looked very hard yet to be fair.

At present though I'm thinking in general because I just need an instrument, getting something interim that I could flip easily/quickly (though that's a bit of a gamble) ubntil such time as something interesting becomes available

Re the Mustang, i'm pretty sure it was the Andertons video where they seemed to be able to bend the note by wiggling the neck which seemed a bit worrying, but then they are cheap instruments aren't they.

Re the Revelation thinline ones, again there's not anywhere near me that has them in stock (a shop in Worcester lists them but has none in stock) though they seem interesting, notwithstanding that I'd need to budget for a pickguard change due to the awful colours they seem to put on the otherwise nice looking instruments. They do a 4 pickup blue standard one which looks nice as is though but again, no stock

Edit, this is the 4 pickup one:

Didn't spot that bit but did notice that the fake tortie shell wasn't your thing - I know what you mean :-)

Schecter Ultra III? Despite the silly name, I think they're an interesting retro-yet-new design. Well outside budget (£750ish new) but unusual designs and brands that aren't Fender/Gibson tend to go very cheaply secondhand, if you can find one.

These modern guitars pretending to be vintage or quirky are embarrassing. I thought the Hagstrom III reissues got it nearly right, but the headstock is wrong (the originals are pure Fender, so wouldn't be allowed now).

Something like the vintage Hofner mentioned above, or a fun Framus would be a much better bet. Even a real Hagstrom if you can find one in budget.

It's different strokes for different folks really, I feel much the same way about relic guitars ;)

the hagstroms always look like I should like them but somehow seem too sharp and pointy looking for me. There don't appear to be any Framus guitars even on Thmoann for less than a grand, have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Lol ouch my eyes!!!!! That looks like something I cut out wood whilst failing to replicate something nice. Or maybe it got melted, and then solidified again?

I think so far I'm liking the following:
    The Gretsch duo jet thing
    Italia Mondial
Maybe some kind of Mustang or Duo Sonic if they aren't too small
    G&L Tribute Fallout
    Revelation 4 pickup jazzmaster style
    Schecter Ultra III

But interesting seeing what people come up with, thanks guys as always

What do people think of Mustangs and Pro/Duo Sonics? Are they too toyish being so small as a main guitar? I'm fairly small myself though so it'd probably not look out of place

I have an old duo sonic and I love it, I put 13s on it so tension feels like my other guitars.

Fret Music (or what's left of it) stocks the 4 pickup Revelation. Though, a trip to Wiltshire is probably a bit far for you.

TR Music in Walsall ( which is a reasonable sized shop) are Revelation stockists. You'd have to call or pop in to find out what they've got though, don't seem to have much online presence.
Guitar Crazy in sunny Sedgley also listed as a stockist, although it's a tiny shop that only opens about four hours a day. Again, no online stock listings although I'm sure they'd be pleased to see an actual customer.

I feel like we have similar tastes in guitars (although I love those Hofners and Teiscos)

I've been gassing over this for a while

I personally use a Casino and a Gretsch, both of which sound great for Jack White sounds - tbh, most things can sound like Jack White if you put them through something that sounds like a dying amp
    Stop crying, start buying

Oh I meant a vintage Framus. The modern ones are well made, if lacking in imagination. Something like this guy:

Hagstroms - I always thought of these as a Strat meets an SG, only less boring. [JOKES!]

Cheers @EricTheWeary I had no idea TR was still even going, it was such a dour old joint that I'd assumed it would have gone ages ago! Will definitely give them or the one in Sedgley a call, never heard of it to be honest and the chances of me getting over that way is less likely than Walsall but you never know.

The Gretsch idea is quite tempting as they are easily and readily available, a little bit conservative looking maybe but nice nontheless. Re sounding like Jack White, I'm not necessarily after something to get that sound, I'm sorted for that, I just wanted to clarify what styles of music I'd play on it so I didn't get suggestions like shredding guitars or Les Pauls really. Incidentally I don't play through an amp, my Princeton has not been switched on since I last recorded 3 months ago, and before that not for a good 6 or so months. I use JHS Twin Twelve or MXR distortion plus Kingsley preamp, into speaker sim and then to monitors. Does the job :)

Yeah that's alright apart from the colour. Strats and SGs are dull I agree, they sound fine but no excitement factor at all! I stupidly made a DIY SG and it's awful
