Modelling - Amp in a box/pedal - Any ideas? Suggestions?

I recently started a new project with an amazing vocalist. We're going to begin gigging soon and i need to source a decent amp in a box/pedal that goes straight to the PA. I'm currently using a palmer pocket amp but want something a bit better.

Any ideas/suggestions for a small amp/pedal solution?

(Not looking to spend Helix/kemper money and smaller - pedal size the better, stumbled on Atomic Amplifire but still a bit pricey)

Atomic is bringing out an Ampli-firebox soon which will be cheaper - not sure if it has the features you need. Do you want reverb, delay, or just an "amp and speaker" sim?

One of the Tech 21 character pedals, or the cheaper Joyo equivalents?
    Or FlyRig?

Old line 6 pod will get the job done and cover all right amps and and basic chorus reverb etc and probably get chance from 50 or 60 quid

I think the answer is Helix.  Now what is the question?

  • The Atomic AmpliFire is definitely worth the money over something like a Pod HD500 as the difference in quality is night and day. It doesn't have the options of the Helix or Ax8 but the amp modelling is better. If you just can't stretch that far, the Ampli-Firebox that will be released soon sounds like it might be what you want.

Amp in a box? That's just an amp, isn't it?

Various options, all of which can sound decent with a bit of EQ:
    • Tech 21  Flyrig
    • Anything from the Tech 21 Character series (Liverpool, Oxford, Leeds,  British, Blonde, California etc)
    • Yamaha  DG Stomp
    • Zoom G3
    • Zoom MS 50G.

I'm consistently amazed by the  bang for buck you can get from the Zoom series. You can find people selling the little MS-50G pedals for less than  £50 these days and you could easily do most gigs with them as long as you can work out the workflow. A G3 would be better as you can do most songs with a careful fettling of the patches.
