Virtual Guitar Building Sites

What's Hot

Does anyone know of and can recommend any websites that let you visually spec out a guitar in decent detail (i.e. body style / woods / colour / pickups etc). I know Warmoth and Halo, just wondering if there are any others.

Cheers

I was on G&L's site a few days ago.

Good fun. Designed a beautiful S500 with F-Hole and a Burst finish.

There's always the vintage Kisekae Tele (and Strat, LP, etc): http://www.ysw-tct.com/tct/default.asp?func=KIJI&kiji=20141229114253.asp

And the offset dressing room: http://www.offsetguitars.com/dressing_room/

Used to have hours of fun on the kisekae one, years ago, but when I tried it recently, it didn't work for me.. don't know if it's a browser, or os thing, or what.. bummer!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

This site worked a treat for me.

It let me do the simple P90 equipped gold-top Tele I'm thinking of.

What do do people think?, I'm thinking chambered 'hog body with natural back and sides (prob satin) and I'd probably go roasted maple neck (so body and neck combo would be similar to the second pic I've found, though ignore the hardware and pickup).

Love the 2nd pic Dan and Esquirey Tele with bound edge looks great.

Are you thinking single pickup, too?

I'd love to know the costing on something like this as currently, I have what I think is a decent budget but I can't find anything decent that I like or if I do, that I can afford. I, too, am considering the self-build.

I'd probably go two pickups Cos, like in the first pic. I do love single pickup guitars but for the cost of this I'd go two. A Warmoth build would be about £1400 I reckon all done, plus I'd factor in someone to level the frets and roll the edges a bit more.

That tele looks a great plan, though I'd personally go Filtertrons rather than P90s.

Have you looked at MJT? Even with a Musikraft neck you might end up cheaper than 1400. They don't "brand new" finishes, but their version of "very minor relicing" is lovely - particularly the necks.

Not sure how flexible MJT are, i.e. with P90's, but no pickguard, with the hardtail bridge, and proper goldtop (I.e. with natural back and sides). It would be a lot of to'ing and fro'ing, in which case I'd probably be better to tap up GSPBasses for the build and Lamf68 for the finishing and make it a UK jobbie. The appeal of the Warmoth route is that I can get the exact spec I want without having to go off-piste and actually speak to people (ha!).
Only thing with Warmoth is the poly finish, I'd probably prefer Nitro, but non-relic'd, but it's not a show stopper as the Warmoth finish is apparently very thin, which is the main thing for me.
