Marcus King is one 'sick' player!

What's Hot

Just caught this Jam In The Van track on YT of the Marcus King band.
It's a great track of the southern rock/soul type and Marcus is one hell of a singer.. bur Lord.. when he strikes up his solo towards the end of the track, it is just monster. Incredible tone and his phrasing and choice of notes is just superb.

This kid is one of the finest guitar players I've ever heard.
Solo kicks of at 5:25, but do try and listen to the whole track to give it context.

    Very nice stuff, the way he mixes dorian and chromatics is quite tasty.

    Yeah, I discovered this cat recently too. He's excellent.

    Edit - not only can he shred, but the phrasing, vibrato and tone are top notch also.

    Awesome singer too. Got ticket to see him (and his superb band) in London in September, having caught most of their set at Cheltenham Jazz Festival last month.
    He's putting forward a very good candidacy for Dave's Favourite Living Guitarist, I have to say.

    Tasty and the voice is as impressive as the playing and material.

    He's only 20!

    He's playing at Dingwalls, London on 20th Sept

    Cheers for the introduction @equalsql ;

    Anyone off to the Dingwalls show, give me a shout!

    Have to also give props to his band who are all extremely gifted musicians. Great as Marcus King is himself, this is no one-man show.

    Hah I avoided this thread having wilfully misread title and expecting level 42 related content, more fool me!
    Great voice and tasty player, will check out more.

    I saw his band play at the Deaf Institute in Manchester. Great player, great band, but quite self indulgent and a lot to take in for a whole evening.

    Quite Santana-like in places. What an incredible player for his age.

    Oh, and he plays a Silverface Super Reverb and a Tubescreamer, and thats it :)

  • Its hardly breaking new ground - I think its strange that a 20 year old would be so traditional/conservative.

    But that aside I really enjoyed it and would defiantly check out more. Thanks for the tip off @equalsql ;

    as has been said before his phrasing is particularly sweet to my ears, but I really like the voice and hat.

    What a player and a what a voice! Great discovery, I'd love to see him live. He's the sort of player that reminds me why I love the guitar. Very inspirational.

    I wasn't expecting quite such accomplishment from your description matey. What a great voice he has too. Just when you think there's nobody coming through eh?
