I was using my MXR Distortion3 + Boss DD6 into a Laney ( small 15w jobbie, set clean) at a jam the other night, had loads of comments along the lines of "that sounded fannytastic" and "that sounded really, really good". All were very surprised at the pedals in use........
Incidentally, another guitarist used my stuff, and from a listener's point of view, it sounded really good.
Don't discount MXR and Boss stuff because of the name.....
Another couple to look at are the MXR Custom Badass OD and the Custom Badass 78

This dist 3s are so damn versatile. 

Maxed gain its a super responsive mid gain crunch, bring the gain down a bit and it's a responsive low gainer, bring it down more and it's a clean boost. Brilliantly useful box.

If you can find one, the Barber Direct Drive is a pretty awesome OD pedal. Same chip as TS I believe. My tele sounded very nice with it.

It's @Alnico 's fault I have one of these. My favourite mid-high gain pedal at the moment..........

Don't worry about that one, 4 out of 7 pedals on my current board are MXR or Boss!
