He used a Dual Rectifier Rack on that album.

In truth you are going to struggle to get that tone from a pedal but try the Friedman or Bogner Red pedals.
    Or a Suhr Riot.
He also used Barden pickups- they are quite bright.

    Yes, I love King's X.

Dogman tones will be hard to cop as there is more going on that his Recto.

I would suggest a modelling pedal, like the AMT R1, and maybe some kind of an EQ pedal, to fine tune the tone.
He also uses a delay set really short, like a doubler, on his solos to beef up the sound.

Saw them live around 3rd album time. They were incredible, those early songs really rocked hard. Great live band.

Agreed - I saw them on the faith hope love tour with mindfunk supporting at milton keynes - sounded absolutely massive for the 3 of them

Bright pickups into a Recto will get ballpark. A lot of the size comes from the bass sound though.

I'm not 100% but I think Ty was using a Pod Pro around that time, god knows what amp he was modelling.

I'm hearing the use of a very short doubling delay on the solo and some univibe too, probably both were coming from Line 6 rack units.

Ty talks about the tuning they use - that's really part of the sound - plus his technique - he has a interesting rhythmic style - the other thing is the chord voicings he uses. The gear is not as relevant imho

His vibrato on his rhythm work is also part of his tone imo

I also think the light strings for such a low tuning have a lot to do with it.

This has got to be one of the greatest ever:

    9's tuned down to

    Db
    Ab
    E
    B
    Gb
    B

The light strings, Dug's bass and the low tuning make the whole thing sounds massive.

^ Nice. During the solo you can hear just how much sound is coming out of Dug's bass.

It's true of most rock bands that the bass gives girth the the guitar sounds, and that a lot of how thick and heavy the guitars sound is actually the bass, but it counts at least triple for King's X.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

You're absolutely right about Dug's bass.  Have you ever heard that guy The Scunion on Youtube?  He replicated Ty's exact Gretchen rig and sounds exactly like Ty.  He has a video of him playing Black The Sky, guitar only, and it sounds kind of bad to be honest.

I read that Ty rolled the bass control down on his Lab amps, and added it back in with a graphic EQ, around 250hz was specifically mentioned.
