String sounds: Electro Harmonix and co

Hi all,

So I'm not really big into the organ effects or other really out-there guitar effects pedals. But I did get a play on a friend's electro Harmonix synth9 recently and found one sound I loved for acoustic. They offer string overlays of chords, just making the sound a bit more interesting when playing slower, sad songs. I would like to grab an effect like this, but wondering if there is any other way to get it than the synth9, as that pedal as a great deal of stuff I won't use. I'll get one if I need to, but are there any units that just do strings or other, more suttle effects?

EHX POG2 is the best I've tried and is probably the base for the Synth9 and all EHX other string and organ fx units. Boss do the MO-2 which has a much reduced set of sounds and doesn't have a variable attack which is a big part of what makes the Pog such a great unit but it may have enough to give you what you need.

The Boss Overtone MO-2 does a similar thing and is more robust and less fussy to work with.
