Best prices currently:

Full Fat £1039
Lite £777

But.. Word is when Helix Native is released it will cost full fat owners $99 (~£77)  and Lite owners $299 (~£233) ..
With VAT thats about  £92 and £279 respectively

Assuming the a Helix owner wants to invest eventually in the whole shebang
For the hardware and software combined packaged we're looking at approx
Full Fat => £1039 + £92 = £1131
vs
Lite  => £777 + £279 = £1056

So a typical difference of  £75!

So what would you go for?

Full Fat, since I'd want Native too.

The native pricing for LT users seems like a bit of an own goal to me..
It really should be the same as full fat helix users
I can see no actual rationale for the discrepancy .

LT users still get some discount, just not as much as full fat users.  There aren't any stats on how much cheaper it is to produce the LT.  It's possible that the answer is not as much as we'd think, hence recovering more from the plugin price might make sense.  But for anyone who doesn't want to buy the Plugin there's a decent saving on the HW at new prices

There is a danger it comes across as 'petty'
After all it's not like the LT is THAT much cheaper
and by the same logic Rack users with the dloor board should get it free ;)

I've only just started looking at helix.
    What is 'Native'?
Can someone explain it in caveman terms please?

All the sounds and most of the functions of Helix in your computer instead of the pretty box with the flashy lights.

    OK thanks.
I take it that's different to just connecting the helix to the computer and having it all that way.
Do you mean on the PC without the helix connected?

So, in theory, I could programme all the snapshots and settings I need on the computer and then transfer them over to the Helix instead of crouching over it for hours on end? That might make me take the LT back out of the box.

Yep, it's Helix on your computer, no actual Helix required.

You can do that already with the Helix editor. :) Confusingly I believe you can share presets easily between Helix and Native also, but Native won't have Snapshots at launch, or so I read.

Full fat. Because you can have swears in the scribble strips.

    Soo..
Given that I would be at the max-out point of my budget..

If you had the choice of going for a brand-new full fat floor version, or a used (gigged) rack version with controller and expression pedal, for the same dosh... Which would you choose?

Are there any caveats regarding the software licenses?

Owning the LT, there's nothing I wish it had that the full fat has and I don't have any interest (at the moment) in the native plugin.

I would say it depends a bit on how much tweaking you're going to do on the unit and how old and creaky your various joints and bones are. And if you're going to gig, and if so whether a rack setup suits. So many questions.

Also if they're the same price more-or-less then I have a strong personal preference for shiny and new, which I know is a bit irrational.

You could probably get a great, second hand Full Helix for near the price of an LT.
There was one sold on Ebay last week.. I think it was £750 Buy it now.
A shop listed one not long later for over a grand as... Box opened.
Just have to keep your eyes open i suppose.

Ive owned both, started with the LT and now have the Full Fat...

I thought Id prefer the screen coloured mode (performance is it ??) that is unique to the LT. as it happened, I prefer the scribble strips and 10 assignment option.

Both sound identical ans are tremendous value for money.

It's the lack of 10 button assignment that killed the LT for me
