I never knew until today that the inspiration for Paddington being found at the station wearing a label came from his wartime experience of seeing child evacuees. Nice that he turned what must have been a horrible experience into something so charming and positive.

I saw this cartoon which just appeared in Private Eye and it made me smile.

Random trivia:  Although Paddington was his most famous character Michael Bond also wrote stories about a guinea pig, Olga da Polga.
I met Olga!  She was a real guinea pig who belonged to Michael.
She was very elderly when I met her and she was being looked after by a mutual friend (and guinea pig author), Peter Gurney.
    RIP Michael

I'd never twigged that the Michael Bond who wrote The Herbs was the same Michael Bond who wrote Paddington.

I like the Paddington books but I love The Herbs!
