Need a bit of advice, i'm off to Orlando for a month, was originally going to buy a traveller guitar, but didnt really like any of them.
So questions are,
1. Can you hire and is it worth it?
2. Shall i buy something over there with a bolt on neck and bring it back in 2 pieces and sell it?
If i do choice 2 what are the recommendations?
I should add i'm a guitar snob and whatever i buy will likely sell
Can't face a month with no guitar

Looked into this few years back the hire costs were extortionate.  I ended up taking a crappy epiphone les paul and playing thro the laptop.

I thought about taking something crappy @Blaendulais but thought it may be easier to sort something out while im there, i think hiring would be a non starter

I had the same dilemma three years ago and came back with a tele. Guitars in the States are much cheaper.

Put my pokerface on and walked by the customs. They didn't check me but everything depends on your luck.

Have you tried a Speedster traveler guitar? It fits neatly diagonally across my suitcase. I link it to my laptop via a Line 6 Toneport GX.

    It's not a competition.

Have they got any way of knowing whether you took it out with you in the first place? Mail yourself back the case candy and receipt so it's not on you when you fly home?

    Is the right answer.

If you are there for a month then find one on Craigslist, or eBay or one of the Banjomart stores.
    Bring it back with you.
Then sell it here and pay for your trip.

I took the case with the guitar as hand luggage (this depends on the airline, some allow it). The papers were hidden in the rest of my stuff. I was prepared to deliver a speech that I always travel with guitar. Worst case scenario is your guitar to get confiscated until you pay VAT.

Are you absolutely sure that there would not be someone local who could lend you one? A friend of a friend etc?

Feel free to ignore this, if you are using this as a convenient excuse to buy a genuine USA strat... ;)

Go on Craigslist when you get there. You'll be able to get a decent Squier for under $100.
