Tanglewood, there's a flood of them on the market at the moment. Look around on eBay. British made and good quality. You can easily save 50% on the rrp for a new one at the moment too.

As weird as this sounds I saw a good deal on a Washburn in Costco. I have no knowledge of acoustics. I had a good look on eBay but quite a lot of junk around

I like Recording King in your budget. Less preoccupation with bling than some of the other budget makers. The ones I've tried have always impressed for the money.

Could he get a used Seagull for that money?
    Red ones are better.

Lag. Seriously these shit all over the Tanglewoods that clutter up every music store in the UK. Actions ship high - deliberately high saddles I think so usually plenty of scope for adjustment and they sound and play incredibly well once 'tweaked'.

Earlier this year I was looking for a cheap acoustic and managed to pick up a second hand Yamaha APX500III, in mint condition for £100.

I wasn't expecting a great deal in terms of playability, sound, etc. but I've been blown away by it, so much so that it's become the guitar I tend to play most of the time now!

Recording king, sigma, maybe.. I've had a couple of Washburns I quite liked..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I have a yamaha apx500 which isnt bad at all. Its got the most electric style neck of all the guitars I tried. Id say it's abit boxy sounding but plays nicely

I'd agree with that, it's great to play but doesn't sound the best. It's perfect if you're gigging/busking they're TOUGH and sound better plugged in.

    SIgma are good Martin clones.

Dont discount the Vintage brand. Second hand they're CHEAP, but the GIltrap and Brett Signature models are superb. As is the (stupidly affordable) V300.

Lastly ly my Faith Naked Mercury was bought for not much more than that.  It's AMAZING.
