I decided this week that it was about time to replace my 2015 Martin D28 that I sold a short while ago. I never really clicked with it in all honesty and was disappointingly underwhelmed.

Anyway, I popped along to Main Street Music in Pembroke to have a chat with Paul. The shop is an absolute gem and he is a top guy, so I was interested to hear what he recommended.

After playing a few Guilds (very nice) and a couple of other Martins (lovely), he handed me a Stonebridge D32SM that had been hanging on the wall for a little while which hadn't received much attention (I guess it's not a particularly well-known make). I must admit, I hadn't heard of them or Furch, so wasn't too sure what to expect. Long story short, it came home with me for a very, very decent price and I am totally smitten. It looks wonderful and sounds even better. The action is superb too and it is absolutely spotless.

I know now they are highly regarded on this forum, but the brand had passed me by. I am definitely a fan now though.

Looks tremendous. There is one of these for sale near me and I would have been tempted had I needed a dreadnought.
    Happy NGD.

happy new and excellent guitar Murf, I looked that model up outa curiosity - low 'n behold they care about what they build with -
    viz
Solid premium grade Honduran Mahogany back and sides
Solid premium grade Sitka Spruce top
    Two piece Honduran Mahogany neck
    Ebony fretboard & bridge.
thats 'the right stuff' to build a decent guitar outa which may cost a bit more than substitutes, if they care that much usually thats carried through to the design = a fine instrument.
    happy pickin.

  • Thanks chaps. I foolishly sold a Gibson J45 a few years ago and honestly thought I'd never find anything to replace it. It was battered as hell and wasn't the easiest guitar to play, but it sounded wonderful and was very forgiving of my woeful technique.

This Stonebridge however is a different class and the build quality is probably the best I've encountered.

Furch guitars are made in Brno, Chech Rep. They have a factory shop in the town centre where you can play lots of guitars and find some good deals. The beer is fantastic too! Stonebridge guitars are rebadged Furch models, depending on which country you buy them from (it's a marketing/distribution arrangement).
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.
