My 88' Ibanez S series is one of my most comfortable guitars and it's great fun to play. The only problem is that prior to my ownership it had been badly mistreated - huge dents and bangs all over the body.
My thoughts are to strip off the clearcoat and sand it down, filling all the dings and dents along the way - and then spray on a pink sunburst with some tiger stripe decals (like so:

- Prep body
- White on the front, black on the back
- Fade white into pink with many clear coats
- Around the perimeter in black, rest of the body in black.

Under the clear coats, the top face of the body is a 1mm veneer on a slightly thicker veneer onto the rest of the body. Overzealous sanding could go right through the top layer or, worse, leave it improperly attached and prone to delaminating in the future.
Might be easier to obtain and modify one of those Facelift peel-on, peel-off stickers.
If you can id look at steaming out the worst of the dents and CA/Super glue drop filling the damage to bring them up level with the clear and just scuff and primmer/finish over the original, ive found paint and clear on ibbys to be very thin and by sanding everything off (inc the sealer) you run the risk of altering the the body profile/edges and round overs
