  • Ibanez. Well made and not super expensive.

If it's good enough for George Benson...

+1 for Ibanez. The Artcore series are excellent guitars for the money. I had an AS93 with a lovely thick neck and beautiful top. Stupidly sold it!

Epiphone ES-175 Premium. Really nice guitar with decent pickups, electronics and hardware.

    Ibanez Artcore.

There are better guitars out there sure, but not for that budget.
I have no idea how they make them that well for so little money.
    It shouldn't be possible.

I would buy used myself, and upgrade the pickups.

Very pleased with my cheapo Gretsch NewYorker

V neck profile might not suit all.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I tried all the usual names like Ibanez, Tokai, Peerless, etc (owned them all for a while) and the best one was a cheap Vintage-brand. None compared to the real thing though. You will just keep telling yourself "but for the money this is really good..."

The Loar. All solid woods on their top end, hand crafted and cheaper than an Eastman. Definitely worth checking. (And if you want a bargain one, check my threads)

I'd second Godin .. I have a 5th Avenue Composer and it's great for jazz. Amazing build quality and tone for the money. I had an Epi 175 but it was let down by the build quality so I sold it. With a jazz box you get what you pay for .. the Godin was far less than a Gibson ES-175. Godin do a range of jazz boxes that can be had cheaply on the second-hand market.
