I found a T/C body in the workshop that my suit your needs, plus a neck to go with it. The body was made several years ago but had has some cracks in the wood, glue has been injected into it, so won't be a problem. This still bit of work to do to the body mainly drilling the holes for the bridge. The neck is maple maple with no finish on it, the frets still need to be dressed I will do that. If you're interested, you can have them for £110 inc P&P.

Your life will improve when you realise it’s better to be alone than chase people who do not really care about you. Saying YES to happiness means learning to say NO to things and people that stress you out.

No string holes = excellent opportunity to fit a Bigsby!

    The correct response.
" Why does it smell of bum?" Mrs Professorben.

it will always smell like wine.
    Uh-oh. A cock sniffer.
    Fixed!....
There was an amount of my suggestion that was just humour,  you got that didn't you?
It was the ability of red wine to stain things I was referring to.

I've got one of those here at the moment.

I can't fit a Tele jack cup as the jack hole is blind. Pity as any other jack cup/plate doesn't have the rustic vibe.

I'm looking forward to getting it thrown together and aiming to keep the rustic vibe very much alive!!

In case you hadn't spotted by now, this is turning into a two-guitar project. 1st is a '49 prototype Esquire, which will be a quick throw together... 2nd will be a butterscotch relic Esquire based on the GSPBASSES body and neck.. yum!

For the 2nd, I got a super freebie from @SteveRobinson in the form of a bakelite scratch plate. Turned up and I've been doing a relic job on it.

It was starting down the relic path when it arrived:

Good, but still way too shiny and nice for this build!!

So I attacked it with the wire wool and got a bit of edge damage going:

It then had a few cycles in the oven and freezer which started to crack the finish nicely and then had a good dousing with the scotchbrite pad and some judicious use of a sharp knife to really scratch it up:

The scratch lines need smoothing out a bit now and so tomorrow it will get a bit of 1200 grit paper treatment to soften it off, but the wear is looking good now...

Does that extend to faking the paint pot ring on the back of the pickguard?
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Oh I'm not that authentic :)

I mean, I'm just going to spray some satin clear on the neck and then rub it back and let it dirty itself up! Can' be bothered with that relic maple fingerboard thing!

    More bits have arrived!!!

Control plate: all shiny and new:

But we we don't want that, do we

For relic'ing, I like to start with a scotchbrite pad and work up some random scuffing, and then highlight areas where there will be more wear:

And then place into a tray, which then floats in some vinegar into another tub, with a sealed lid:

Will leave it for a while then continue the relic process...

I hope this thread is of interest/use to at least some of you!

Anyway, here's the control plate after 4 hours in the vinegar vapour.. as you can see the corrosion is starting quite nicely.. The haziness mostly wipes off, leaving the blueish and brownish areas quite prominent..

I'm going to leave it in overnight so you can see the effect that has as well..
