I don't use any of that. I don't think £145 to look at the BBC website every now and again is very good value for money.

The TV license thing needs to change. It's pretty backward in this day and age.

    The gender pay gap?

    1. Who is Claudia Winkleman
    2. Gary Lineker was an England football hero who played the game at the highest level.

Excuse me for having an opinion but that is why he is paid more money.

    Gender equality bollocks gone mad

    Brilliant value IMHO.

I couldn't give a fig what these people earn - if I'm entertained for £2.80 a week (and I am) then it's irrelevant.

It's sickening that Lineker who earns so much should pontificate about mass immigration and want see social housing going to illegal migrants rather than poor and deserving citizens in this country. Let them eat crisps, seems to be the message from on high. . And to think we pay them this much to preach EU and Left Wing propaganda at us..... Time to stop paying them !!

    Can you point out where

1: Lineker used an official BBC twitter account to do those things; and
2: Where it says that because he is paid by the state he, as a voter, isn't entitled to his own opinion on political matters?
Senior government employees (which his salary makes him) are generally required to not publicly give political opinion. As in that appears in civil service contracts.

It's amazing how much anyone in entertainment or sport gets paid. But they earn so much because those industries generate so much money and competition is fierce.

Yup it sucks that you can earn a lot in such careers compared to a nurse, teacher or street cleaner but that's just how it is.

Heard John Humphreys on the Media Show driving home this evening. He seems remarkably comfortable receiving £700,000 a year for shouting at politicians in the morning....

Maybe we should expect the junior ministers to do 1/7th as good a job replying when he does then....

And to think people rant about MPs earning 1/10th this amount to run the country... how skewed our view of life is these days.

Excuse me kind sir, can I have a portion of false equivalence please?

Of course. How large an example?

So big it's obvious from fucking Pluto.

Is it? A senior BBC employee is clearly a) publicly funded and b) in a position to influence others. Indeed in more of a position to influence your average Sun reader than a mid ranked civil servant in the DTI. As sad as it is the views of celebrities are influential. (Look who is running the US for an example).

He's not a government employee in the way you suggest and he's not a civil servant. He has no position of authority and no influence over policy creation or implementing it. That is the false equivalence.

If he is such an employee, then he is merely the Court Jester of old. Paid to entertain.

If he is taken seriously because of his position rather than for what he says then that is the fault of the listener, not the performer.

however, looking at his twitter feed suggests that what he says resonates with many, not just football fans.

fair play to him. Who doesn't want to earn a good wedge? If an employer is prepared to pay why shouldn't you take it?

This holier than thou sanctimonious shite questioning the morality of presenters taking a healthy salary is all bollocks.

Good luck to to anyone who gets on in life. There is always a bigger fish and a smaller fish, twas ever thus.

I'm not bothered about how much they're paid in fairness. The whole thing came about from a demand by the government, who are hardly in a position to talk about honesty and transparency...

He's not a government employee. He's not even a public sector employee. He's free to say what he likes.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!
