Hi

Any experiences with these pickups?

The Hayrides look a good set.

He has a sale on now too.

That first clip sounds great, with the exact kind of tones I would think a classic telecaster should have, very nice indeed. Love the jazzy tone from the neck pickup - of course the player makes a huge difference, and that guy clearly is able to demonstrate the potential of the guitar/pickups.

Yes, I've previously had Strat sets, and a "Stangray" in an Esquire.

I currently have a set of his pickups in a Tele. Very nice indeed.

I'm sure that Marc or Ash (just two notable examples) could make equally good pickups.

I had some of his 1964 Josie Vaughn strat pickups. Wasn't really that impressed TBH. Weren't very lively. If you're gonna bypass our fine UK builders, Rocketfire is the way to go IMO. For strat pickups. Which probably isn't useful when you're looking at teles...

I've glanced at Don's site many times and can never make head or tail of it. His descriptions are really confusing. The way he tells it, each of the many models seems to be the best for everything (well, almost).

I once looked into his special "Rosie wind" claim and it seemed to be a load of horse poo. There's a pickup-winders forum somewhere around 2005 where he basically admits it. If I recall right, there never was a Rosie at all, and the "special" wind (if indeed he can reproduce it each time) is an amalgam of assorted pickups he says he dismantled.

I've never tried any, mind. I'd like to. They might be really really good.

Nothing against the uk pickup winders! I just have an order from musikraft and mjt and it seemed silly not  to take advantage of trying a boutique manufacturer. Pickups are getting sent to mjt and everything will be sent to me! One parcel, keeps the wife from asking too many questions

Haha! It's a mare of a website but once you speak to him he really sound passionate about what he does.

im building a tele (early 60's) replica with a few twist. My main goal is to build something better than fender.

Nothing against the uk builders. It was mainly to do with cost with sending it from one source and the discount on don mare.

i have ordered some don mare's the hayrides!
