Having sent my Squier CVC to McToot's good home a few weeks ago, Tele GAS started itching again, but this time for the blackguard variety. I was initially looking at the Squier CV 50s, extended my search to the Baja (hence the WTB thread), but ended a bit higher up the value scale...

2nd hand Road Worn 50s, from the newer, less beat-up batch. I never thought I'd fall for the relic thing, but having compared with a couple of Bajas I've got to admit there is something to be said for the thin finish - really nice woody, acoustic quality to it that is lost a bit with thick poly coatings. 7.5lbs so pretty light. And that neck... a real treat, not too big and not too slim, tactile, good combo of 6105 wire and old-school radius. it all feels nicely broken in, and since it's second-hand I'm less ambivalent about buying a brand-new scuffed guitar

Fit and finish is really good (super tight neck pocket), could potentially do with a bit of a fret dress but nothing urgent. It was set up with 9s (whaaaaaaaat) and the intonation was pretty off so I quickly saw to that.

Need to put it through its paces properly with the Deluxe Reverb, but so far I'm well chuffed. Very nice chime, especially with the bridge pickup, which is pretty decent. The slightly worrying thing is that I'm now seriously looking at Oil City's tele offerings as I reckon it deserves it... Argh.

As a bonus, it also means that I'm once again close to the guitar Grand Slam. Here it is with its three mates:

Now where's that 335....
