It probably doesn't matter too much if you damage the arm in the process since if you succeed in getting it out you'll need to tap out the block for a larger thread (usually M6) and replace the arm anyway.
If it's really stuck, take the block off the plate and pass the arm through the plate (you'll need to pull the plastic tip off), then replace the block and the arm.
Or just replace the whole lot, if the guitar is worth it.
