Removing finish question

Just picked up a cheap explorer copy with intention of finally learning how to strip and refinish a guitar. It plays well has no issues, sounds pretty good for £90 I paid for it. Thing is it's silver, like a rattle can silver, and having looked inside the control cavity it seems it's black underneath. Question I have you you clever people is will the heat gun and scraper method go through the silver paint layer ?

I'm sure that will be fine, but the heat scraper thing doesn't always work. I have had 2 guitars which is was brilliant for, and a third where the finish was bloody rock solid and was NOT coming off with heat! Gave up in the end.
