Best Les Paul colours ? Fave neck profiles..50s or 60s ?

siraxemansiraxeman Frets: 1935

What's your personal faves ?? No wrong or right answers here as its all down to individual taste.

Neck - 50s...everytime.

Me...Lightburst, Iced Tea and Honeyburst are all very sexy. I used to like the Cherry Sunbursts, my very first Gibson LP was in fact a brand new Cherry Sunburst Standard, but am more off them now. Still nice but have to go behind my first 3 choices listed. Least favourite apart from some of the weird ones Gibson have had out in the past like Gecko, is plain old black. I don't mind black LP Customs..the gold seems to set it off nicely...but black Standards just don't compare to a nice burst. IMO.

Anyway yours ?

50s neck on a goldtop. I've gotten better with lightburst, honeyburst over time but still can't stand cherryburst, I've never liked it. I quite like see through trans finishes on les Pauls as well like black cherry, amber, nice trans blues etc.

Plain top Wine red for me.

As I mentioned somewhere else is doesn't seem to look good in pics , buts looks perfect in the flesh.

Of the bursts I like honeyburst best.

    And I like a 60's neck.

  • Goldtops and Blacktops.

White an black is good on Customs but they only look good with some age on them.

    Big necks all round :)

Goldtops are gorgeous I also love trans black on a really good top. I too hate cherry burst and have no idea why, oh and white customs look like a Liberace signature model imo.

  • Vintage sunburst and wine reds. Always regret getting rid of my wine red custom. Would have said 60's neck but I'm loving the asymmetric profile on my 2008 standard these days.

    Les Pauls have gold tops.

    All others are fakes.

  • As for neck profiles, I'll play anything smaller than baseball bat.

But every Gibson I've played is different, so 50s and 60s don't really apply. I'm fairly certain I've seen a 60s thicker than the 50s next to it.

Colours - Goldtop on a Standard, or a very faded un-burst if the top isn't too fancy. Black on a Custom. I also like 'modern' colours, especially on things like Studios, but I did like that washed-out transparent seafoam green Standard as well...

Neck - I don't really like either of the standard exaggerated neck profiles they do now. The "50s" is too clubby - none of the real 50s necks I've ever played are like that, even though they are fairly big - and the "60s" is too skinny and flat… again not like most of the real ones. Of the two I find more "60s" ones I can get on with. I generally prefer the plain modern ones before they started the "historical" thing.

  • I get on with both but prefer a 50's profile.

THE ultimate guitar for me is a 70's Custom Silverburst.

    Otherwise...

Type: I only like Customs or the cheaper Classic Custom

Neck: definitely 60's, but I'm not fussed either way...i would get use to it.

Colours: Wine red, black, natural, bone or tobacco burst

Wine red with a 60's neck. But then I am a bit biased at the moment. http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/11045/belated-ngd#latest

I detest cherry bursts, especially some of the luminous clownburst ones from the 80's and 90's. The washed or faded ones aren't too bad but I wouldn't want to own one tbh. Deserttburst, honeyburst, iced tea are all way better

Goldtops are nice. Black too, but only on a custom.

This should have been a poll.

For me goldtop or a plain top honey burst.

50's neck or asymetrical I guess although...

That said mines a flamed plus top in amber witha 60's neck!

White, black, wine red, faded burst.
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

60's neck. Honeyburst plaintop. Don't like flamey tops for some reason. Quite like darker goldtops, too. Boring.
