    there are the "famous song" multitracks knocking around the www too, but I'd assume there were issues with copyright for those

    There's a few bands have released multitracks and encouraged people to produce remixes etc. Nine Inch Nails were quite an early proponent of this, there's a fair few songs of theirs that you can pick up the stems for legitimately.

    Anything released on guitar hero often has separated stems as well, its not full clean multitracks but you get guitar, bass, drums, vocals separated out usually.
