I always hated Tele Deluxe's - too much pickguard ... but ....

Its fine apart from the lump of alloy nailed behind the bridge, IMHO.

If it had a Strat trem like mine, it would be nigh-on perfect.

You were right first time, too much pickguard and as a result way too many pickguard screws.

13!  Unlucky for the poor sod doing maintenance on it.

Tele Deluxes are a nightmare if something needs be re soldered.  My Trohman Tele is a PITA for those things.

I prefer the look/functionality of the Jim Adkins Tele Deluxe.

The guard isn't too big, the pickups are too little

Just all wrong. Too much ugly plastic and metal. Although the burst colour is nice.

Not bad. The thing with Deluxes is that I think they need the large wide range pickups to temper the amount of pickguard (as @wez suggested), and because of the large pickguard you can get away with uncommonly garish colours.

I like this one in faded Candy Tamgerkne, yum!

Another case of the word 'deluxe' being wrongly applied.

The pickguards on these are too big, as already stated. So why fit a light p/g and regular-sized humbuckers to make this fact more obvious?

  • I like my MIM Tele Deluxe FSR a lot. I love the looks. Plays well and sounds really good since upgrading the pickups to The Creamery Wide-Range (the originals were just nondescript humbuckers in a large casing) and changing the wiring/controls to a Mojo loom.

The scratchplate (what's a 'pick guard'? ;-) ) is so big because the routing for the wiring is all on the top of the body - as I'm sure we all know. When I bought it, it was very noisy, and just touching the plastic of the scratchplate made a nasty sound. I lined the entire cavity and back of the scratch plate with conducting copper tape and it's now dead quiet.

I like it. although I agree it's still too much (white) scratchplate and full-size Fender pickups would look better (although these look good too).

Presumably it's not a Fender?  Partsocaster?

Why hide that nice woodgrain with that pick guard monstrosity?
