In over 50 years of amp owning all I can remember is they were mostly Fenders with the odd Traynor, Musicman, Vox and a few oddities thrown in. For the last 10 years or so since I no longer play out, I've had a couple of Rat modified Blackhearts. My favourite though is the ZVex Nano. It's the ideal recording amp.
I still technically own a Silverface Princeton but it doesn't live in this country. :/

Since my early teens in the early 90s, excluding bass amps:
    -'orrible Squier 15 combo
-Selmer Treble n'Bass 50SV with a cab made from a dead HH combo with the cheapest 15" from Maplins bodged into it
-Another Selmer Treble n'Bass (reverb version this time), with an old Celestion Greenback and a Fane in a 2x12" disco cab
-WEM Clubman, 70s 1x10" valve version
    -Fender Champ 25SE
-Home built Princeton Reverb based thing
    -Home built 6v6 Plexi-ish combo

Not all were gigged, since I've gigged much more on bass than guitar.  Only the bottom two are still around.  I do regret selling both Selmers while they were still regarded as cheap tat...

  • 40+ years.

To be frank, I can't remember what I had for me tea...

But who can really forget their first kiss?

Watkins Dominator MkIII...with an SG copy made by Zenta - and for those Manchester lads who may remember, bought from Mameloks on Deansgate.

The amp to my tender ears was as loud as thunder, and the guitar as heavy as a car....little wonder I'm fooked...there were heavier and much, much louder things to come.....

    Wot bloody larks.

Marshall JTM 50 - First amp (excluding valve HiFi amps that I started with....or the Akai cassette deck overdriving the mic input fed into Quad 405 power amp). Still have the Marshall.

Fender Frontman 15 (1983 era). Still have.

Ceriatone Overtone Special - Still have.

Holland 'Lil Jimi - Main amp for past 6 years.

Matamp 1224 GT - Still have...next inline to be sold.

Ceriatone Yeti - Still have - covers all of my rock needs from Plexi to JCM800.

Mesa Lonestar Classic - now gone.

Incoming Fender HRD - hopefully similar to my Holland (need a standby gigging  amp).

Great thread - especially when people add comments.  Here's mine - around 48 years' worth:

AC30/6  rescued from a flooded basement so had to cut the bottom off.  Used with a 2x12 and 4x12 with varying success. Never really got it to sing.

Selmer TnB50  Sounded rubbish to my ears - gave it to our bass player.

WEM Westminster - ok at best but actually gigged it for quite a while when still at school.

Boogie Subway Rocket Reverb - my first proper amp and I've now had it for nearly 20 years.  Now with a Celestion Gold.  Lovely responsive amp and can still hold its own.

Vox DA-5  Best 80 quid I've ever spent.  Bought it when the kids were younger and their mates were around.  So well sorted for such a cheap amp.

Vox VT20+  Picked up on here for £25.  Like most digital things there are a lot of crap sounds but some surprisingly good ones too.  Responds like a proper amp.  Currently with my son at university.

Fender Supersonic 22 - Great gigging amp but doesn't respond properly at home or even practice levels - now sold.

Yamaha THR10C - I believed the hype and it was wrong.  Sounds like you've plugged into the back of your kitchen radio.  Moved on hastily.

Vox AC15C1X  - Lovely for Indie stuff or when backing female singers.

Cornell Romany Pro - My latest purchase.  Just had a tweedy itch that needed scratching.  Lovely amp which I'm still learning. Responds in a completely different way to anything else I've had.

That's jogged my memory. I played the original amp that the 1224 GT's were based on - a 1224mkII that the owner had modded to suit his own tastes - at the Matamp factory. The owner was a terrific fella, who let me run amok with his pride and joy.  I've played a lot of the buggers since, but that particular 1224 is the finest Matamp I've ever had the privilege to play.

    Thanks for the memory jog @exocet ;

It's a long one - 41 or 42 years - contains a fair few amps that some folks regard as cr*p but have served me well - never blown an amp. * = still with me

Winfield 15 watt pile of cr*p - yes that is Woolworths
    Simms Watt valve head
Marshall 50 watt head no mv - no idea of the model now - classic sound but unreliable
Marshall 50 watt head MV (new in about 77 or 78)
    Fender Twin Reverb
Gibson Lab Series 2x12 combo - execllent amp
Sessionette 60 watt combo (it's now 1985) - years of service - sterile cleans
Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp + mosfet power amp but used mostly in studio
Peavey Classic 30 (new in about 93 - I liked that amp - cooked nicely for pub gigs)
Marshall JTM 60 2x12 (new from Coda Luton in 97 - years of service sold in 16 for £330!)
*Orange Tiny Terror (2008) still own - my son has it - may buy him a Dark and get it back
Laney VC 15 w Greenback - excellent for small gigs but sold
*Fender Blues Junior w. various mods inc Cannabis Rex (2013)  still own - good amp so far
*Peavey Studio 40 1x12 combo - bought very cheap on a whim and because I always like a spare for gigging - the TT is great for that - probably won't keep it (the Peavey that is) - would be great for jazz but I don't play jazz!

I think think I now want a Princeton kind of thing, possibly a slightly upgraded one like a Rift or something with a 12 but maybe just a standard 65 or 68, need to try thoroughly

EDIT; As per my other post I now have a Cornell Romany Pro and am a very happy bunny!

This is the truth from hillbilly guitars!

  • Since 1991

Marshall Lead 20 (why did I sell it!)

    Fender valvestate equivalent

    Vox Valvetronix

    Blackstar HT1R

    Blackstar HT5TH

Laney 5W Lionheart (best up to this point)

    Yamaha THR10

    Marshall JVM215C

Marshall Mini Jubilee head and 2x12

    Kemper plus Laney IRTX

    Laney VC15

    Brunetti Singleman

All have been moved on apart from the VC15, IRT X and Singleman.

So far the best of the bunch was the JVM. So versatile. However, I'm looking forward to getting my Singleman later this week.

Playing for over 30 years ( not that you'd notice!) Amps in approximate order:

Vox Escort 30 - horrible sounding SS thing but as it never left my bedroom it provided the amplification I needed for the Satellite guitar I bought from my mum's catalogue.

Fender Performer 1000 - really liked this and thought it sounded great on the clean channel.

Award Sessionette 75 - 'kin loud for such a tiny thing but a bit unreliable and just OK sounding.

Tech21 TM60 - clean channel was lovely. Drive channel wasn't. Shared EQ meant it was one or the other and it annoyed me that the internal speaker was disabled when you plugged in an extension cab.

Roland Cube 60 - the modern one. Really liked this one.

Laney Cub Head - my first valve amp. Sounded quite good to be fair, just not enough clean headroom to gig with unmiced.

Vox Night Train 50 Head- plenty loud but the drive channels were too fizzy and the clean lacked depth.

Roland Cube 80XL - same as the 60 with some useful extra features  (built in tuner, solo boost and looper)

Orange Rocker 30 Head - love this. Super simple no frills.

Mesa Express 5:25+ - very versatile with really lovely sounding clean channel.

I still have the Mesa and Orange but my AX8 gets most playtime currently.

With that in mind, I am considering selling both heads and getting a valve combo but haven't yet found the "one" that will replace them both so until I do, they're going nowhere.

  • Mostly a list of shame, but it did the job at the time.

Started playing in 1989 but didn't have an amp for a year. Then had ...

    Squire 15
Hohner Marlin 50C (my most gigged amp)
Line 6 Spider III 75 (which I also gigged)
    Peavy Vyper 75
    Blackstar HT5 (Stack)
    Bugera V22
    Blackstar HT20 (Head)
Harley Benton V30 2x12 cab (Still own)
Laney Ironheart 60 Head (Still own - but about to sell)
Laney Cub 12R (Still own - but about to sell)
Orange Micro Terror Head (Still own - but about to sell)
    Joyo Bantamp Zombie Head

But who can really forget their first kiss?

     Zenta
Ah, thank you!  That was the name I was trying to remember.
Because Zenta made my first amp and, unlike my first kiss, it was every bit as horrible as a second-hand 70s transistor amp should be.  6 inch speaker, tremolo and a google would suggest reverb but I don't remember the reverb.
If you ran a FuzzyFaceMelter into it on 11 the Zenta would still make you sound like Bert Weedon (tamed).  Remarkable.
I'm all about the SS these days but it took a long time to shake of the horrors of 70s transistor amps.
