Finally lost his battle with cancer at the age of 56.

Not ashamed to admit I've just shed a tear at this awful news.  Husker Du were a massive massive band for me, and some of Grant's songs were their most distinctive, and amongst their absolute best...Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely, Diane, The Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill, Dead Set On Destruction...I could go on and on.  Some of his solo records were amazingly good, too.  I'm listening to his Intolerance LP as I write this.  This is The Main, which is a pretty unflinching account of heroin addiction...

Rest easy, Grant.

Sad to hear he's gone. Huge influence on music as part of Husker Du

  • Gutted.  I started a thread in Tributes when I heard the news this morning.

His solo and post-Huskers stuff never got the attention it deserved.  Some of the Nova Mob stuff is fantastic, particularly The Last Days Of Pompeii LP.

I shed a wee tear too. I played guitar for Grant on his first post-Husker Du UK appearance. I played The Main and a few other great songs at a sold out show in London. He was nuts, funny, useless and a genius at the same time. Husker Du are one of the great neglected bands. :(

Very sad too. Listened to Diane and started to well up. That has never happened before. Something to do with the power of the music, the emotion of his delivery and how deeply ingrained Husker Du are within me.

  • Husker Du were one of a kind. Added weight to the snowball that became known as Grunge in so many ways. Together with Bob Mould, they opened many minds to approaches to music.

    Terrible news. Very saddened.
Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.
