E and B strings?

why is the difference greater in a set of 10s [10,13.17] than in a set of 9s [9,11,16] why not a 12? ...

  • Something to do with the illuminati and number sequences I think.

I'd imagine (from a semi-educated guess) that it is more to do with what the capability to accurately draw wire / manufacture strings was back when the different gauges first came out. It probably wasn't possible to accurately and repeatedly draw to a 12 diameter.

It is the reason that a pack of 10s is such an odd sequence of gauges and the reason that the tension is incredibly imbalanced string to string.

This is roughly what the tension will equate to over a 25.5 scale.

    10 - 16.22lbs
    13 - 15.39lbs
    17 - 16.58lbs

    09 - 13.14lbs
    11 - 12.04lbs
    12 - 13.11lbs
    16 - 14.68lbs

I always use 10, 12, 16 or 11, 13, 17 depending on scale length (also change the low strings too)
