How to give my les paul studio a bit of a facelift?

after going a bit mental lately I decided to calm down and keep it as it's a very nice guitar.

It's not my favourite colour though. I bought it as it was a bargain.

I was thinking of getting some Slash pickups for it so I'd go with zebra's probably. I could change the knobs to relflectors.
Maybe change the pickup rings/pickguard to white/cream.

But I just bought one of these. But perhaps another one would be nice with humbuckers.

  • God no, no more effin gold tops with crap P90s, it's made to rock, that's why it's black and has humbuckers.

Paint it copper top (if I keep suggesting it someone has to do it at some point surely)

The Goldtop is a fine choice.

As for the black 'un... well... a pair of lower output humbuckers will transform its voice from metaaaahhhhll/rawk to something a little more versatile, I'd steer away from open black coils on a black les paul with no binding though. Its a bit characterless. I'd go fo cream coils or cream surrounds and nickel pickups.

Good point on the character thing, so 70's mirror top black knobs to complete the Sykes thing.  It is what it is guys, a rock machine :)

What about a really loud pickguard - there's some crazy stuff out there.  Jacks has some great colours.
Change the knobs to white or to match the new pickguard
Strip the body and oil/wax it

  • No stripping, repainting or routing, it still actually has cash value :)

Maybe the best plan is to sell it :)

  • I have Gibson Les Paul 70s tribute wine red and wanted to change the top to a natural finish and a local luthier told me it was not possible due to the lack of edge binding on the guitar ( same as a studio) is this right?  He said the whole guitar would have to be re-finished so I decided against.

    Put a sticker on it.

The choice of sticker is down to you though.  I can't make all decisions for you.
