How do I copy a video to my iphone?

What's Hot
Silly question I know, but I am using an iPhone6 and can't figure out how to do it. It is seen when I plug it in via USB, but I can't copy/paste or drag/drop anything to it. Do I have to have Mac? Do I have to copy the files to Onedrive or the icloud?

  • Either use iTunes to sync it, or access via Dropbox and use VLC

Thanks people. I was hoping that being almost 2018, I wouldn't still need to install iTunes on a computer! Onedrive seems to have worked OK though so that will do.

iOS is a pain in the bum for making it difficult to do a simple thing like transfer a file to or from a computer. It's the thing I find most annoying about it. There are a lot of 3rd-party apps that will do it though, so I don't find it a big issue - but it then seems even more stupid that Apple still won't allow it.

I guess it is a wireless transfer at least, so could be worse :)

OK, will any of those methods actually let me play it back at anything other than normal speed (through OneDrive I don't have that option)? Some people just talk way too slowly...

That's been a rumour since about iOS 6 I think...

Thanks, I will wait until then I guess. Hopefully that mean I could use a different video player to play files that I copy via USB, and it will allow playback at different speeds!

A lot of the video apps have a wireless transfer option. For example, I use VLC on an iPhone 6 and there is a 'Sharing via WiFi' option. This means that you can turn this on, open up a browser on you PC and point it to VLC and the IP address of your iPhone . This then allows you to transfer files into VLC on your phone.

I've got a media player on my iPad that works on the same way (can't remember the name).  (Edit - It's AVPlayer by eplayworks)

Ah, thanks Chris, I will give that a go. I assume VLC does let you adjust playback speed on the iPhone like on other platforms?

  • Yes, you can mess around with the playback speed and audio delay.

You can tame iTunes but a real pain in the arse r way they force this on users. Every other app and os will go away find the artist and then name the files and folders accordingly. iTunes will name the files zsadfgeejjk23ghu
