I love P90s. I think I'm breaking some kind of guitar law by not liking P90s in my SG though. Specifically bridge ones.  Maybe it's just my one in particular but I've found it very picky with pickups and p90s are too thin sounding for it in the bridge position. I love the neck one I have (axesrus late 50s humbucker size p90) so I've been tempted to try the matching bridge one. My bridge humbucker sounds pretty flat in comparison but at least it's thick, warm and sustains notes well which most other pickups don't in this guitar!

P90s in a les paul is my preference. Would love a goldtop with cream ones. Or a black custom p90.

  • I only have a group photo but my Tokai LS1 R4 is probably the single cut I play the most. The P90s are the stock Tokai ones and they sound great. I find that P90s in a Les Paul gets me closer to my ideal PAF tone than any humbucker! I think that Gibson had pretty much got it right with the Les Paul by 1954.

Anyone in the market for a P90 based Les Paul style guitar should check out Tokai's premium range. That said, the new Gibson Les Paul classic looks great and I'm strangely drawn to the Pelham blue one.

I've noticed a lot of P90 Neck / Humbucker Combos recently, but I'm not sure what Model Humbucker you would pair one with  :s

^mines an Axesrus purist. Doesn't really match that well but sometimes it's nice to have that contrast. I mostly just use the neck for cleans so it works ok.

So many good options but P90 + simple mahogany plank = something rather magical indeed.

Do you want a trem of some description?
    No not bothered about trem

I believe it came from Brazil...the guy who built it sourced those parts... Lewis Guitars... a great builder from the west country :)

I love P90s, definitely going to pick up a 2018 Les Paul Classic. There's something about their grittyness.

  • My SG came with mini hums. It was rather flat sounding. I replaced the bridge with a Seymourised mini. Equally flat. Took both minis off and put a cheap dogear in the bridge position. Sounded like a new guitar. I probably came in my pants when I first strummed it
