What are your ‘no-no’ Guitar colours?

What's Hot
Just realised today that I stop looking immediately if a guitar is red - just don’t like red guitars at all, never have. There’s not a single style that I think it looks good on.

A friend of mine will never own a Sunburst guitar even though he’s a massive Tele fan....whaaaat?

So...what colours turn you off straight away and what are the notable exceptions? (only guitars that are allowed to be silver are Gretsch btw!)

Bursts on flat top guitars are wrong, and dark blue on almost any guitar.

  • I wouldn't dis-regard a guitar for its colour, hell if a guitar was pink but sounded amazing on recordings I would still get one haha.

Don't like too much bling..  So like the LP Supremes with really complex inlays and fancy stuff like that puts me way off..

And don't like tops that are overly flamed or quilted. Even though you do see the odd one that somehow just looks right.

Or white guitars... in general. Again ive seen the odd one or two that do look ok but I still wouldn't own one.

Same here, but with certain alterations on a Strat I think 3 Tone S.B looks wonderful. It'd have to have a Black Guard and Cream Knobs and Pick Ups and of course a Rosewood Board.

Don't like the standard Fender Black with White Guard Either or the All Black "Ebony" Gibsons, but with a few cosmetic changes to the pick guards and knob colours or Binding etc, they can look pure class.

Don't like the shocking Pointy Guitar type 80's Pinks, Yellows, Greens or Oranges either.

  • Black, or white of any kind for sure.

Most non translucent colours don't get much of a look either.  The only exceptions being gold tops and butterscotch teles.

No no no.  A nice emerald green flame/quilt is the best finish you can get.

Oh my you have funny tastes.  Dark blue flame/quilt is second only to the emerald....perhaps a nice red might sneek between them.

I'm not keen on heavy flame, especially with a coloured stain.  Light flame or a bit of birdseye are generally OK.  I'm not a big fan of solid black either.  I would have said sunburst at one time, except that precisely half of the guitars I own are sunburst, so I guess it can't bother me that me that much.  I'd still have picked another colour if the choice had been available, but both are older instruments that happened to do what I wanted and came along when I could afford them, so the finish was a secondary thought.

  • Red is Hank
    3T burst looks cheap
White is Hendrix (bad in my book)
Anything with stripes/flames/skulls just looks immature

    Blue/Green/Gold/Orange = awesome
