Black, brown, white and day-glow colours. I also hate quilted tops, they're just so cheesy.

    Flamed maple tops.
    Cherry Sunburst.
    Silverburst.
    Gold hardware.
    Fake ageing.

I dislike all the above however if I played a guitar that sounded and played amazingly I wouldn't turn it down on colour. You can't hear colour.

Sunburst on a strat or tele.
    Bright Red
    Blue
Green (except seafoam green which I love)
Gold hardware - only exception is on a black LP Custom which I think is one of the classiest looking guitars going. They look better with black covered pickups though.
Cherry red which is funny since my only guitar is a cherry red sg. I sometimes think about getting it refinished. It looks orangey in daylight but most of the time it's dark red.

    Red Strats.
    Any
coloured acoustic (including sunburst): acoustics should be wood-coloured!
Translucent colours over quilt and I'm not too keen on highly figured tops, although there can be exceptions.

Personally I hate nice bits of wood that have been fully covered by any colour. I like to be able to see the grain. Natural colours are great as long as you can see the wood.

I've had my les paul 12 years and the only thing wrong with it is the clownburst which is just as bright and nasty as the day I bought it.

  • I don't like blue guitars at all, no idea why.
Any other colour I can live with but not blue.
Oh and also I hate quilted maple.

Fiesta Red. Looks like a red that can't be bothered to put the effort in.

3TSB. Looks cheap IMHO. Although it's fine on a Precision Bass for some reason.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

  • Any kind of blue, especially if it's transparent over fancy wood. Exceptions made for sonic blue and pelham/LPB.

How did I forget 'Antigua', AKA "sickburst"? Hideous.

Now supposedly cool, for some inexplicable reason.

Quilted maple tops in that turquoisy 'swimming pool' colour.

    And 'tobacco sunburst'.

It so depends on the guitar. And the neck colour too.

e.g. Sonic is stunning with rosewood on a strat; not so stunning with a maple board.

Black looks shite on a LP Standard; stunning on a custom with gold hardware.

A Gibson ES175 looks ridiculous in green but stunning in sunburst.

    It's not a binary thing.

However, as a Fender person, not many metallics I like (other than Sherwood or Burg Mist)

I don't like black guitars or natural wood electric guitars (acoustics obviously fine). But I think the only guitar that should be allowed a gold finish is a Les Paul, any other gold guitar just doesn't look right to me.

  • Translucent finishes over quilted/flamed tops - horrible.
    Any shade of purple
    Bright public-toilet white
    Orange

Agree with these, except for black on an LP Standard, which is ok, if a bit dull. But a blacktop LP Standard is a thing of beauty

Black or wine on a Strat - yuk.

Conversely those colours on a Les Paul look good.

Not a sunburst fan either, especially the clownburst cherry ones on some Les Pauls. I'm not keen on plain brown either, but a couple of my guitars are brown, just because they're good guitars and were bargains. The biggest abominations are those Antigua finish Fenders.. you couldn't pay me to own one.

love most stuff PRS but this makes my teeth itch and the bluer version of this well is plain offensive although I am told much loved as a modern colour

now that looks really nasty, I'm not a fan of most finishes on prs tbh, could be the over flamed perfect tops which I hate
I played a PRS in that colour.  Great sounding and playing guitar (maybe the best PRS I've played) but there is no way I would have bought it.
