NGD - Straturday came early

There's something about Sunburst Strats that have always appealed to me - since I was a teenager my eyes are drawn to them on a shop wall more than any other colour.  Since I got my Classic 60s Lacquer Jaguar I've thought about getting a Classic 60s Lacquer Strat - the Jag seemed to be a notch above the Classic Series Strats and Teles I've had. £920 for a nitro topcoat and a hard case didn't seem good value compared to the "ordinary" Classic Series guitars though. I had a look on ebay last week and there were two for sale. One had quite a few chips and scratches but the other looked almost new - apart from, according to the seller, two small marks from a reaction with a stand (see my other thread). There was one bid on it, and I put a bid in. I was very surprised to win it the next morning at only £10 more than the first bid!

I wasn't expecting it until tomorrow, but it was dropped off at my neighbours this morning.

Two piece off-centre seam body, with some characterful grain:

I've been A/Bing it with my much earlier Classic 60s Strat (appearing in a classifieds near you soon) and my first impressions are:

 - In feel and sound, they are very, very similar, this is marginally lighter.
 - The neck on this is noticeably slimmer, and with plainer grain (there's a hint of flame on the other one).
- The tummy cut is much shallower than my earlier Classic 60s, almost like a 70s Strat.

The two marks are barely noticeable, more like scuffs than a chemical reaction. I'll buff them with some T-Cut at some point, but no big deal. Top marks to the seller for pointing them out.

Overall, I'm very happy to have ended up with a relatively new case queen for 63% of the new price!

  • Nice! I've had mine for a couple of years and haven't felt the need to change a thing. That seems like a bargain you got there.

Mine has a bit of character adding grain as well, just above the trem the grain seems to reflect the finish strangely. You can sort of see it in the picture.
