Recording Gigs

Has anyone got a good cost effective way of recording your gigs? I can't take a feed from the desk (for various reasons), so looking for alternate solutions. I've recorded stuff with my Sony Handycam and the video comes out really well, but obviously the sound is another thing.. the Mic clips badly and really lacks any bass (as expected).

I was thinking maybe a Tascam iM2 mic but don't think there is one to fit my iPhone 5.

  • Get an iRig Pre (naff-all from Thomann, and you can use your review vouchers if you've got any) and use a cheap condenser. Install the iRig Recorder app on your phone and you're good to go - I used it to record our last rehearsal with an SE2000, and it sounded surprisingly good.

The iRig Pre works with Android devices too, despite the name.

  • Just a thought but does your handy cam have a line in on it? In which case get a pre amp and a half decent condensor  then disable the on board mic .and use the condensor
