Try living in Australia for a bit and having a Queensland Redback crawl out of the toilet bowl at you.  It was February 2004 and the memory's still very very vivid.

Keep your windows shut as soon as it turns September. Simplez. You could also block any other obvious holes to the outside world, vents etc. Keep the loft cover on too. You might still get one or two coming in but not loads of them. 

Something that helps with fear of them is to catch them in a glass instead of killing them. Everytime you do it watch them in the glass for a few minutes before chucking them over nextdoors fence (they wil come back into your house if you just chuck them out of your own window).

Another tip is to keep those daddy long legs spiders around in your house. Even though they look frail they will catch and eat the big nastys that come in September.

Conkers.
Put them on windowsills and other places of spider egress.
They don't like it.
If they do come in, you could always throw the conkers at them.

Spiders love the bath cos they feel the world around them by vibration and the bath is a big antenna dish - - BUT how do they get in there?? There was no sign of this fcucker just a few mins before he appeared!

Alot of the spiders you see at this time of the year are house spiders and are not coming in from the garden. They are coming out of their hidey holes looking to mate.

Having lived in the North Penines I actively encourage spiders. The sheer number of midges they used to catch and eat was outstanding. I had one build a web over my summer window crack, which I have no doubt saved me from a million bites or several sweaty nights.

I'm scared of spiders, but I don't get rid of them often, unless they're really causing me stress.

They catch flies seriously, keep a couple of decent spiders in your bedroom and you'll avoid getting stung plenty. They also help protect books and antiques from other things that like to gobble them up.

We've got False Widows in our block.
You don't mistake them and you don't fuck with them either.
Jet black with a gold medallion on it's back.

ANY spider we see gets killed immediately in case it's a Widow.
A bite from one of them and it's A+E immediately.

They dont love the bath, they just cant get out once they get in.

It probably came in through the vent on the wall. In a lot of houses, this is directly above the bath

we've had Big Bob and Big Bertha in our hall for the last few days, Bob is a big unit but he keeps to himself.
I assumed they are appearing due to the weather changing and getting colder, is this right or total bollocks ?
