  • 5 points @Danji  I think you've got quite a few good riffs in there. The compression wasn't really to my taste but great ideas and playing.

3 points @steamabacus There's so much going one in terms of effects that I think it might be stretching the term Raw riff :)  But I like it.

1 points @DulcetJones A classical doom'ish riff, which is in keeping with your general style.
    It's not a competition.

    Thanks for the votes  =)

@stratman3142 I have zero idea about the compression bit, it could have been on GarageBand, I just used the internal mic on my iPhone. I think I’ve still got it I’ll have a look.

    My votes:

5 points = @steamabacus for massive the janglefest
3 points = @stratman3142 for his raw bass riff
1 point = @DulcetJones for the nightmarish riff

Stratman, re the compression, yes it was up! I’ll keep that in check, normally if it’s in time I’m happy and don’t listen too much to it.

  • 5 points - @steamabacus  Effect overload, but I like it!

3 Points - @Danji  Really nice work, maybe a few too many ideas at once.

1  Point - @stratman3142   Great bass riffing, but I'm hearing several riffs here as well

  • @stratman3142 you'd have won if it stayed to 18s as that first bit was class and developed into too much of something else :(
Very cool and different. Same comment for @Danji - absolutely fantastic and loved the sound but the riff concept was maybe a little loose (please don't kill me lol..)

Same for @steamabacus, could have been kept to 30s?

    1. @DulcetJones because it sounded the most riff-like.

    2. @Danji as that was super cool.

    3. @steamabacus as was also super-cool.

No problem, I always feel the need to stretch things out to at least 30s. It's nice to get votes but the main reason I enter these is to force myself to come up with something every month, then set myself some sort of constraint or style as a challenge

This riff was born out of the thread by @Viz below. I just set myself the challenge of starting a riff with b3, 5, 1 (i.e. C E A), which is why it has the unimaginative title of Bass351.

    Ha brilliant, exactly!

    5 @steamabacus ; - nice use of effects

    3 @stratman3142 - makes me want a bass

    1 @DulcetJones - this also makes me want a bass :)

Runner up @Danji ; -  I'd forgotten the start by halfway through so probably too clever for me.  I enjoyed it but not in a riffy way, although maybe that shouldn't matter?

Thanks for the feedback @thomasross20 what do you mean about loose? That’s not a challenge, I’m interested in knowing what you meant mate.

  • I think it was more than just a riff - it was breaking out into a full song. :)

Ah, got it.  Yes, totally.  Its something I practice, how would I play something with these chords in the context of a tune. So in a ‘real life’ situation, I wouldn’t play the same idea all the way through.  Cheers for that

  • Not that I could have played that.... :) You guitar beast!
