Taylor guitars - model number codes???

Can someone please explain how to decipher the model codes for Taylor guitars?  I think I understand some of it... but not all of it.

For example, I think a 312 is a different shape versus at 314 (so, in this case, the 2 or 4 define the body shape). What's the difference between a 314 and 514? Is it just more expensive woods for the top, back & sides of the '5' (and maybe some more bling)?

But what's the difference between a 314 and a 324? What does the '1' versus '2' mean here?

Also... does Taylor make any short scale models (ie Gibson J45 type scale length)? If so, which models are they?

Can I also check what the relative sizes are?

Taylor says...
 2 = Grand Concert (e.g., 812ce)
4 = Grand Auditorium (e.g., 814ce)
6 = Grand Symphony (e.g., 816ce)
8 = Grand Orchestra (e.g., 818e)

... and I assume the 8 is bigger than the 6... the 6 is bigger than the 4... the 4 is bigger than the 2. Is that broadly true?

Almost, but the dreadnought numbering messes it up. The 0 dreadnought (eg. 310, 610) is 16" across the lower bout, the 2 (GC) is 15", the 4 (GA) is 16", the 6 (GS) is 16.25", and the 8 (GO) is 16.75".

I think that's right...
