This is a a 'Berlin' box set of Bowie albums - don't buy it. For some reason Tony Visconti decided to add bottom end to low (no pun intended) and half way through Heroes the volume drops .. WTF. If you have Spotify you can listen to this mess.

Read about it here:

Edit:

Amazon have pulled the box set due to complaints.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

As a huge Bowie fan (and I know I say this about every 3 days on this forum) I actually find a lot of Tony V's 'cashing in' behaviour since the great man's passing to be questionable and reprehensible.

I agree. I'm a big fan of Bowie's Berlin period. I've been listening to the box set on Spotify and it's pants. Heroes has a massive volume drop half way through. I have an original vinyl copy bought the week it was released. There's no drop in volume ..

They're from Adam Buxton (remember the Adam and Joe show?)....big Bowie fan and did a long show on 6 Music "Adam Buxton on David Bowie", this was all long before the died.

It's not on the iPlayer anymore but just spotted an edited version on soundcloud...the Eno sketch is originally from that:

Parlophone's defence seems to be that Visconti was in the room when the tracks were cut, therefore he's best placed to say what they should sound like. But Visconti's ears are 40 years older, with all the associated loss in high frequencies etc. Was he really the best ears to bring to bear on this project?

But he did play bass and (with Ronson) compose a lot of TMWSTW, amongst a load of other stuff, so he's obviously more than a tape op.
