Renting Pedals ?!?

What's Hot

Got a few FX up for sale and have had a couple of queries seeking to rent, not buy, using a service called Fatlama.  It's a new one on me: showing my age I suspect.  Is renting pedals now a *thing*?  Is it, you know, 'safe'?

The times we live in.  I remember when this was all fields.  Etc...

Renting pedals isn't a thing. Occasionally a company will set-up to rent pedals with either a monthly subscription or a pay-by-pedal scheme. But they never catch-on. The reason for this is that if you buy pedals used then flip them if they don't hit the spot, you usually get your money back.

I got the same thing on a couple of Akai pedals I had up for sale on Scumtree; agree, it's most likely a bot trying to drum up publicity/interest in Fatlama.

Anecdotally, you get higher prices on items on Sundays when everyone is at home browsing eBay attempting to stave-off the mind numbing boredom of conversations with the in-laws.

unless you had the pedal before, renting is a silly option as it takes hours of twiddling and swapping about until you know what a pedal can and can't do... then there is the unknown 'mistake-turns-into gold' happy accident that often makes a meh pedal awesome...

a guy on this forum (I can't remember his username ) set up this very business in Bath either early on when the forum started, or the end of the music radar days, he had some quality pedals and at reasonable loan prices (maybe a tad high) it wouldn't take off, despite him putting a lot of effort and good stock into it.

    I suspect that's why no-one does it.

They have a few pedals I'd like to try, however as for the OP and fatlama, I've never heard of them before. The fact you have to register to see what's available puts me of.

I remember him because he bought some secondhand gear from me and then went on to describe it as new on his website.
